Common solutions Of Why my fridge is not cooling

Having a refrigerator that is working but not cooling your drinks is a common issue. Often this problem occurs in old fridges but, it can also be a problem in new fridges. Before stepping into complex solutions, there are a few checks and fixes that might save your time, energy and money.

Why my fridge is not cooling

1. Check for the power supply. Make sure the refrigerator is getting the power supply. You can check this by listening to the sound or by simply checking the door light of the fridge.

2. Check for the thermostat. Make sure it’s not set to the maximum temperature.

3. Check for the coils. Often some dust or dirt gets stuck in the coils. If so, use a vacuum cleaner to clean it.

4. Check for the evaporator fan. For this, you can check for the formation of ice on the coils. The ice indicates the glitch in the evaporator fan. To defrost, take out everything from the fridge, unplug it and leave it like that for about a day or two. Keep the floor ready to absorb the melting ice. This will solve the problem of ice formed on coils but, this is not the permanent solution. You’ll need to replace the evaporator fan if the formation of ice was a result of faulty evaporator fan. The problem in the evaporator fan can also be identified by the loud noise of the fan when you hold the door of the fridge open.

Replacing the Evaporator Fan

The fan is usually located on the back of the refrigerator, near the ground. You can also follow the sound of the fan which, as mentioned, if it’s not working right, would be higher than the usual sound. Once you’ve located the fan, remove the cover to get access to the fan. You might find some screws holding the cover so use a screw driver to open it. Make sure the refrigerator is unplugged. Once you’ve reached to the fan, replace it with a new one. Attach the new fan to the mounting bracket. Unplug the wires from the old fan and plug them into new fan. If the problem is solved, well and good. If not, it’s time to call the expert.
